Tomato, Basil, and Fresh Mozzarella Napoleans

This tomato, basil, and fresh mozzarella napoleans recipe is my take on a classic summer salad.

Difficulty: Beginner Preparation Time: 20min

Yields: 1 Quart Total Time: 30min


  • 2 large Beefsteak Tomatoes, cut into 1/2" slices

  • 1 lb Fresh Mozzarella, cut into ½ inch slices

  • 16 Basil Leaves, washed and dried

  • 4 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • 4 tbsp. Balsamic Vinegar

  • Kosher Salt


Place 1 Mozzarella slice on a cold 8-inch salad plate. Place 1 slice of Tomato on top of the Mozzarella, sprinkle lightly with kosher salt and place 1 Basil Leaf on the Tomato Slice. Add another slice of Mozzarella on top of the tomato, and then add another slice of tomato on top of the Mozzarella; sprinkle with salt and place Basil Leaf on it. There will be 4 layers all together, alternating Mozzarella, Tomato, Mozzarella, Tomato. Drizzle with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar.
